ASME Y14.5-2009 GD&T Update Seminar: New Directions in GD&T

Portland, Oregon Area

In-Person Public Seminar:
Date: June 29, 2010

Advanced Dimensional Management LLC is pleased to announce our ASME Y14.5-2009 GD&T Update Seminar. This Seminar is open to the general public and available on a first-come-first-served basis. Register early to ensure your place and receive an early-registration discount.

Fifteen years in development, the ASME Y14.5-2009 standard represents the most advanced and most useful Dimensioning and Tolerancing and GD&T standard in the world today. ASME Y14.5-2009 includes many very important changes and improvements, and these changes and improvements will have a beneficial effect on industry. There are also some unresolved issues in the standard, and we will help you understand them and implement the standard optimally. Although this seminar may be taken as a stand-alone seminar, it is an excellent follow-up our other seminars and focuses specifically on ASME Y14.5-2009.

As a longtime member of the ASME Y14.5 sub-committee support group, your instructor has first-hand knowledge of the new standard, and participated in its revision and development for many years.

This seminar presents an overview of the structure of the ASME Y14.5-2009 standard, changes in philosophy, new rules, new symbols, new tools, new and expanded feature types, new techniques and approaches, pros and cons, hits and misses, and best-practices for using ASME Y14.5-2009. This seminar presents an extensive discussion of all of the changes in ASME Y1.5-2009.

NOTE - this seminar assumes you have prior knowledge of GD&T - attending this 1-day seminar alone will not cover the basics in depth or sufficiently expose the full-breadth of GD&T topics. Please consider our earlier GD&T seminars for prerequisite training.

Along with many improvements regarding Datum Reference Frames, a large part of the change to ASME Y14.5-2009 was coordination with ASME Y14.41-2003, addressing using 3D Solid Model Data as Design Deliverables. This seminar is presented back-to-back with the ASME Y14-41-2003 Seminar to coordinate these two important related topics.

As an author of many books on GD&T, tolerance analysis, and model-based design, Bryan R. Fischer understands these important topics, how they all interconnect, and how they should be implemented in business, both from theoretical and practical viewpoints. With over 25 years of direct industry and standards development experience, your instructor can offer you the best advice for implementation and practical application of the standard.

About the Instructor:

Bryan R. Fischer is President of Advanced Dimensional Management LLC in Sherwood, Oregon, offering leading-edge training and consulting in Dimensioning and Tolerancing, GD&T, Tolerance Stackup and Analysis, Dimensional Management, Design, Standards and Quality.

Bryan is an ASME Certified Senior Level GD&T Professional and a member of the ASME Y14.5 Sub-committee Support Group, and directly involved in developing the ASME Y14.5 standard. He is recognized as a leading authority in the theory and application of Dimensioning and Tolerancing, GD&T, Tolerance Analysis and Tolerance Stackups, ASME Y14.41-2003, ISO 16792:2006, and Using 3D Digital Data as Design Deliverables, and related fields.

He is a published author, having written many books on Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, Tolerance Stackups and Tolerance Analysis, and Dimensional Management, including "The Journeyman's Guide to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing: GD&T for the New Millennium", "Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Visual Glossaries," and "Mechanical Tolerance Stackup and Analysis." Bryan's latest book, the "GD&T Update Guide: ASME Y14.5-2009: Changes, Improvements, and Clarifications", which covers the changes and improvements in ASME Y14.5-2009.

In 2008 Bryan revised the 11th Edition of The IHS Drawing Requirements Manual, and wrote an extensive new chapter on PMI and Advanced Applications of Solid Modeling, which includes 3D-GD&T™ and using digital data as deliverables in industry. This is a book in itself. It is based on the ASME Y14.41-2003 and ISO 16792-2006 standards, and MIL-DTL- 31000C, and includes material on using PMI, 3D-GD&T™, and 3D digital data in industry, and on annotating 3D assemblies and weldments, which is not yet addressed in any of the standards.

Bryan's latest work is assisting the implementation of GD&T and PMI in 3D data interoperability standards, and assisting developers to improve capabilities and implementation of GD&T, 3D-GD&T™, and PMI in various CAD and other analytical software packages. He is also actively involved in international efforts for the development of STEP and other data format and interchange standards, and for the long term archival of product definition data.

With many years professional experience in the field, he brings a wealth of practical experience, enthusiasm, and even a little humor to the classroom. Students enjoy our training - most of our clients are repeat customers.
